Therefore, the difference between pig iron, steel, and wrought iron is mainly in the difference in their carbon content.

Pig iron is very brittle and usually cast, so it is also called "cast iron", which is used in industries to make machine bed. The wrought iron contains lesser impurities, stronger toughness, and can be forged, so it is also called "forging iron", which is used to make iron spoons and spatula.
